Title: Direct Replacement Roof ACs?
Post by: Old Hippie on August 30, 2022, 01:48:39 pm
Is there such a thing? I need to replace both of my original (2002) Dometic ac's. I read  the "search" results and now I am confused.  I want to keep my 5 button stat. I am looking at the Dometic Penguin II. I also want to DIY this project.
thanks Rick

I had mine replaced last year with new penguins.  They said I had to get the thermostat to make it work.  He used the wires that were already there.

They replaced them cheaper than I could buy it for at the time.

I only had one bad unit but replaced both.  I tried to order one from Amazon but it came in damaged and the repair guy said it wouldn't have worked anyway.

You either have to switch the new boards for the ones out of the old units or replace the thermostat. The 5 button thermostats are at the end of life anyway.

So, each of the units will have new and separate stats? I assume the old 5 button will remain to operate both furnace zones? I do not want Heat Pump option.

The new units have the control boards to work with the newer thermostat. One thermostat and all the functions of the original.
