Title: New Tires: Proper Thread Direction and Torque for 2000 U270 34'
Post by: floridarandy on October 02, 2022, 03:24:56 pm
New Tires all the way around this next week.  First set since we purchased the coach in 2017.  All are now 6-7 years although no checking or issues since new.

Two question to be sure I can check tire shop:

1. Direction of threading passenger vs Driver side - end of studs on all wheels stamped MR
2. Proper torque
3. Does wheel need re-torque after some initial mileage

Thanks

Randy

Your year has hub center wheels all right hand thread. 450 lb- 550 lb torque dry and clean threads. This is the info I have found. There are other threads showing light oil.

For general information:

On a coach with left hand threads on the driver's side, there should be an "L" on the stud.

Foretravel annual service for my year coach advises retorquing every 12 mos.  I just had a valve leak on the road.  A new valve stem was installed, and the wheel was torqued to 500 lbs.  The commercial truck tire shop directed me to their sister shop 100 miles down the road for a retorque at no charge.  They felt so strongly about it that they would not replace my shiny plastic hub covers.  I complied, and I was surprised at how much more those nuts moved at the second visit.

When I retorque I hardly ever have a nut move but I will always retorque.

Good to mark the nut and wheel position line with a felt marker, back the nut off a tiny bit and then retorque.
