Title: How Long Will Our Air Bags Hold Air?
Post by: TulsaTrent on October 10, 2022, 12:01:45 pm
I've had my Foretravel for over eight years, and have a basic understanding of how most things work. When we travel, it seems that my air pressure is pretty much gone by the next morning.

Recently, I had an experience that was much different. (Unless I am comparing apples and oranges??)

I had my coach raised and on safety stands for several months. My normal procedure is to raise the coach and insert the stands, and then lower it to sit on the stands. (The rear always takes a lot longer to raise high enough to install the stands.)

Earlier this year, I removed the stands to take a short trip. After five months or so, the rear stands were still a half-inch short of making contact. The front ones (which are much easier to see) had been sitting on the stands all this time.

Why was the rear still sitting higher than the stands after several months? I'm not complaining, but I had never noticed this phenomenon before. Is this normal? Have y'all experienced this behavior?

Thanks,

Trent

When you lowered it you only bottomed out on the fronts is the likely event. The backs could have only raised with the control if your air tanks were full and you say they leak off over night. My bags hold air between trips sometimes 5 months.

The air pressure you read on the dash is at the tanks. When you shut the coach off, a closed "circuit" is created between the bags and the sixpack, allowing the pressure to stay in the bags while the tanks leak down. The front and back each have their own closed circuit. It sounds like your rear circuit is tight while your front one has it's own leak(s).

If & when I don't use the safety stands my airbags will hold air for a long time, I believe at least few months, but driver rear side, that side goes down in 6-7 days. When I use the safety stands that corner holds up for at least a month or so ( I drive it at least every 40-60 days to get everything circulating. So for me, like Elliott wrote, I have a small leak, but when squeezed down by the weight. I need to look in to this. Sounds like you have a similar situation.

My left rear has a really slow leak. It takes a week before I notice it listing a bit.
