Title: What silicone/sealant to use
Post by: dlkj07 on October 16, 2022, 01:58:22 pm
Finally running solar wires from panels to controllers. Had to remove silicone from hole punched through floor to wheel well.

What exactly is this? Want to make sure I replace like for like.

Thanks

It's not silicone unless someone has removed the original already, I have replaced my sealant with polyurethane, it last well and don't break down like silicone does.  Send Brad Wolf a private message he can tell you what it is

The goop that Foretravel sealed every thru-floor hole in my coach sure looks like white silicone...and gobs of it.  It is tough as nails and tough as hell to remove.  I sealed back all the openings with white Lexel after I poked my new wires through.  It sticks to anything and cures quickly.  Woody.

I think the original stuff may have been Silkaflex. Brad has mentioned it before.
I like it because sticks really well , easy to tool and seems to repel dirt.

Bob is correct.  It is Sikaflex polyurethane.

Thanks for the help.

What was there definitely seemed like a robust silicone. Fairly easy to remove, it remained pliable with no cracking or deterioration. Looks like it was factory installed but you never know.
