Title: ih-45 airbag
Post by: Donesch on October 18, 2022, 02:45:10 pm
My drive axle airbag was damaged when the tag axle tire blew out.  Foretravel and Spartan don't have the bag and Firestone is unresponsive.  Any suggestions as to how I find a replacement bag?  2018 iH-45.  Firestone part number supplied by Spartan W01-358-9285 shows it is obsolete in the current Firestone commercial air spring catalog.  No OTR parts house has found a cross-reference.  Any ideas?  Coach is down!

Donesch,

Welcome to the ForeForum.

With the Firestone part number, an OTR truck parts house should be able to cross it to another manufacturer like Continental.

Brett,

Thanks for the quick response.  The coach is at Mainline Truck & Trailer in Bedford, OH who is an authorized Spartan service center.  They claim they contacted every parts house they know for a cross reference on the Firestone bag but I'll send them back to look more and look for Continental bags.

Michelin tires are also impossible to get!  so, any source ideas there would also be appreciated.

Best,

Don

Mainline came back to me and confirmed that no OTR part source they contacted could cross-reference to the firestone number.  Any other ideas or would the forum help?  The Firestone # i have is W013589285.  Would anyone know the Continental equivalent?

Don,  call me about finding Michelin tires.  Bet my guy can get them for you at prices better than FMCA.

YOU call the nearest Truck Pro heavy duty parts store. If you fail there YOU call Fleet pride truck parts and have your part number ready. Capital YOU because you have much more interest in finding this bag than the Truck shop. If this fails call Truck Pro in Little Rock Ark and ask for Walter, if he is out on a delivery tell them to have him call you. Tell Walter Williams that W.C. McBride ask that he help you if at all possible. These people aren't motivated enough. If you have trouble reaching Walter PM me and I will contact him. I'm sending you past the people at the parts counter, Walter is the boss and a friend.

Was the Firestone part number that was installed on the coach?

I would do as Dub has suggested and also get the specs of that bag.  They may be able to match the important part of the specs with another one but maybe the bolt holes would need to be modified.

Thanks.  Where did you find those part numbers listed as options?  Was it Spartan, Firestone, who?  The 1T15LP3 came up with three possible Firestone replacements with Truck Pro.  I'll compare specs next.

The Firestone number I have came from Spartan. I'm still waiting for Foretravel to give me a number.

Just did a google search.

If my wife had been around I would have asked her since she seems to know more then google.

You never get used to that attitude, but you do become resigned to the fact.

These guys rock when it comes to hoarding part numbers, all I can add is this: order from multiple sources and pay the re-stocking fees for the ones you don't use.  Have them drop shipped  to the garage.

FWIW in 1963 Studebaker sent a bunch of cars prepped by Jimmy Granatelli to Bonneville and came home with 20 world land speed records earning Studebaker the right to proclaim to all Makers of the Worlds Fastest Production Cars.  Then in December Studebaker closed their doors in South Bend, Indiana.  Sort of a big FU to the boys in Detroit.

Yes. Order as many different sourced airbags and have them drop shipped to the garage.  They won't care, but they may remember.
