Title: 1995 U320CSE How does generator tray come out?
Post by: Rocky1down on November 15, 2022, 02:01:08 pm
Just bought a 1995 U320C SE. after our 1995 U300 caught fire back in September and was totaled.
Bob is trying to figure out how to get the generator tray to slide out.
I think this is one of the first U320 C SE's built as I asked Foretravel for the build info and it was started in January 1995 and finished in February..
It still has furnaces instead of aqua hot.
So far we are impressed with how well everything works, and unlike our 1995 U300 has the manuals and receipts for everything the previous owners had done.
Thanks, Susan
Have not updated my info yet as we just picked it up yesterday

We have a 1995 U320C SE build number 4726 completed in February 1995. The generator tray is easy to pull out. There are two bolts at the front, one one each side that need to be removed. It should then move easily—unless it hasn't been moved in quite some time, in which case it might take extra effort.

It's really interesting that our build numbers are just four digits apart!
We are in Ohio—just east of Dayton. Where are you located?

I have the same model and year coach. Yes, there are one or two bolts at the front of the track that the generator is attached to. Remove those and the generator will pull out. Its heavy and requires some effort to pull out.
My U320 is build 4614. It was used in the 1995 brochure that first introduced the "new" model U320.
My coach has a Primus heating system. Foretravel experimented with heating systems on the U320 first off coaches, only a few were fitted with the Primus system. It was between the Aqua Hot and the Primus system for future builds, the Aqua Hot won out.
The Primus runs off two propane fired boilers. There are radiant heaters all over the coach. The hot water is pumped through out the coach providing heat that is within 1 degree anywhere in the coach including the front windshield. The pump uses very little power and the boilers use very little propane. Very quite as the boilers and pump are located outside the coach. Nice system, but being orphaned its difficult to service. The Primus system was used by Wonderlodge.

We are in Ohio as well, in Portage Lakes south of Akron.
Another question, where is the valve for filling the water tanks? On our first Foretravel a 1996 U280 as well as our last 1995 U300 it was under the bathroom sink.
Can't find it in this one and really would like to fill the water before we start the trip home on Friday.

The water fill is a solenoid valve that's operated by any one of three switches. One is located in the kitchen,, one is located in the bathroom and one is located in the bay where the water inlet is located. Each switch will turn on (or off) the latching relay that controls the water-fill valve.

We don't see one in the kitchen. When he switches the one in the bathroom the green light doesn't come on. Do the solenoids go bad?
We will check the one outside in the morning.

First—check to make sure the "salesman switch" located by the entrance steps is turned on.

There is a latching relay that's controlled by the momentary switches. The relay could be bad. I think the latching relay for the water valve solenoid is located behind a white plastic panel on the back wall of the storage bay just ahead of the bay where the water inlet connection is located.

Be sure to check the wiring diagrams for the coach to locate and check any fuse or circuit breaker for the water-fill system.

The bulbs can burn out I had to change the indicator bulb in the bay. Also I had to change the latching
relay.

I wish my 95 had a switched valve! I can not for the life of me figure out why someone thought putting a valve under the bath sink was a good idea?? Does anyone know why this was the way it was done?

Also, my 95 295 is build #4750. Seems to be quite a few 95's on here!

I think that era was about the peak of Foretravel's production rate. I wish I could have visited the factory then. It would have been exciting to see all of the activities!

About that time, I was working my blueberry farm and outdoor advertising company located about 70 miles or so North of Nacogdoches.  I passed the factory quite a bit while running my traps.  It was always a delight to gaze at the lots full of Foretravels and dream.

The electronic valve for filling went out on my 95. I rebuilt it, it works fine now.
Filling through the electronic valve is MUCH slower. This is the reason that many install a gravity feed to fill the fresh water tank. Its also easier to add bleach to the fresh water tank and its fool proof/electric valve breaks proof also.

Probably easier and cheaper.

Most 295s were set up with the manual valve (unless special ordered) rather than the electronic valve that the 320s have. In other words slightly cheaper.
