Our trash bin has not had a "home" since we bought the motorhome in 2016. Under the sink seemed too small so we just put a "temporary" trash can next to the kitchen table, which was constantly being moved around. After two years of full timing we were ready for something a tad more elegant. During a recent overnight stay with a friend in Austin we discovered their hidden trash bin located in the cabinets with a pull out drawer. Since we have not used our ice maker much, especially after getting a residential fridge, we decided to convert that space for a hidden trash bin.
After much poking around the internet we came upon this: Top mounted pull out kitchen trash bin (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H45N6PK?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) I originally searched far and wide for a bottom mount system, but after removing the ice maker I discovered a drain line from the washer dryer along with a bit of wiring that make a bottom mount problematic. This one mounts to the sides like a drawer and it clears the drain and wiring. I had to add some facing to the cabinet opening to make it the right width (12 inches). Purchased three doweling jigs (save yourself some time and go straight to Rockler) and glued it in place with Gorilla contact like glue. Cut some custom width side rail supports that mount to the interior cabinet supports at each corner. Had to add one corner support.
For the door I up-cycled the old oak fridge panels and a friend bought some 1x4 red oak and duplicated the side frame of the door. He drew the door out on a cad program and we spent some time getting the sizing correct. I think we are going to be happy with this new arrangement.

I did the same thing with my removed trash compactor.
I installed a Stainless front to match the stainless Fridge, microwave, and dishwasher.
Would love to do something like that for our coach, but alas, we need all the storage we can muster as full timers and that is when the fight would break out with the DW! Very nice clean install! Congrats on thinking outside the box!
Looks great what color stain did you use; I bought a new door and am having trouble getting a close color match
I talked with David at FOT when he replaced our wardrobe door after a mishap. He finished with a sealer as per original. It's noticeably lighter than the rest of the wardrobe. On the trash bin door I used warm satin poly urethane after first sanding with 120 and 220 sandpaper. It is more durable than the original and does a good job of matching in my opinion. This finish is rated for hardwood floors. Light steel wool between coats, no stain. For the oak, a honey oak stain will slightly darken the wood. After twenty plus years, our oak finish ages to a warmer, darker color. We went back and forth on how to finish, got it close enough for a duffer.
This finish was also placed on our indoor grab handle by the front door along with a light coat of honey oak. Also refinished this month. It turned out a little darker, but there was also years of oil from our hands rubbed into the handle that I couldn't seem to sand out, that's why I did the stain to try and even it out.
