Today I went up on the roof to figure out why I was getting the bad motor error on my Winegard Company RZ-8500 Rayzar Automatic Hd Antenna. Turns out the motor is OK and works perfect. Problem is the little white plastic gear that is attached to the motor. In reading posts about this antenna Winegard's position is buy a new $382.00 antenna. Any ideas as to where to search for this plastic gear. Hate to trash a good antenna for a $2.00 part..
Maybe you can find someone with a 3-D printer to print a new one.
I had 2 of those Razars on different coaches. Why they used cheap parts on an expensive unit is beyond me. I decided on this coach to use the old bat-wing- works perfect
Why anyone would do that defeats me.
When I took the drive head apart on my daughters Kitchen Aid mixer low and behold a plastic gear. Now it was shredded, apparently it's a replacement part complete to utube video.
I was told to look on Amazon for "small motor plastic gears". From what I can guess the gear I need is a 092A I had to order 30 of them from a grand total of $5.27 delivered to my door this Wednesday. If this turns out to be the correct part, it will be a cheap fix. If not I will be throwing away $5.27. I will update when I get the gear.
I had contact Winegard via their web site. I got a response back yesterday.
"You can purchase a replacement motor for the Rayzar Automatic through our Customer Service, please call 1-800-288-8094 option 1 and option 4"
I will first see if the gears I get from Amazon will work. If not I will call Winegard and order the part. Glad to see I can get the parts I need to fix it instead of buying a new one.
My gears came in. They are about 1/2 the size that I need. The gears I got were called 092A I figured the first 2 number are the number of teath. I tried different letters and different # then 2 and did not get any good results from searches.
Guess I will be calling Winegard
I'm glad to see this post. I had one of the rayzar antenna die on me a few years ago, at that time they were replacing them under warranty. I still have the old one (I'm a packrat) but was going to take it to the recycle place tomorrow. I will pull it out of my truck and wait a little longer to see how Turbojack solves his issues
Called Winegard and got VM that they were having a company meeting and to try calling back the next day. I forgot to call Friday but did get up with them on Monday. Girl had my information (not sure when I ever gave it to them). She is sending me the motor /gear box for a total of $46.86. That includes tax, shipping, and the part. This is way more then just the gear if I could find one but if I had to have one made I am guessing I would be spending at least that much. Way cheaper then a new complete unit of $399.00 Hopefully I will have Monday or Tuesday after Christmas.
