Title: Possible battery boost issue
Post by: dlkj07 on December 20, 2022, 06:04:43 pm
Out of the blue (I guess that's how anything happens) the light on my boost switch isn't lighting up. I do hear the solenoid click back there though so maybe just a bulb in the switch? I'm about to head out with my volt meter and do some testing. Any tips on what to look for? I'm not sure where the solenoid is but I'm assuming back by the isolator under the bed. I'm solo so right now so I have no one to flip the switch to give me bread crumbs.

Yup, that's exactly where it is. I'll grab you a picture off my 2001 U320 here in just a few minutes

Here you go, it's the silver cylinder my finger is pointing at in the first picture. The first picture is taken from the top via the bedroom, and the second picture is taken from outside, looking into the engine bay.

Got it, thanks...I actually just replaced that a few months ago not knowing what it was, it was just old and nasty and thought I might as well...hopefully it's just the light in the switch

Does it matter how the 2 smaller center wires are connected? After looking at yours I may have reversed those, though my boost has been working correctly.

With a 24213 solenoid (ignition or boost) or equivalent, the two small wires may be connected in any order.

If one of the small wires has 12 volts on it then it is working. Very common for the bulb to go bad in the switch.

So just checked voltage...

Switch on:
Engine Bat lug13.8
House Bat lug 13.8
One little lug 12.9 v

Switch off:
engine battery lug 12.7
House Bat. 13.8
Both little lugs no voltage

So it appears to be working...looks like it's the bulb in the switch

If your boost rocker switch is the same as the one in my '93 U280, then the replacement bulb is the one linked below:

SYLVANIA 2721 Long Life Mini Bulb, 2 Pack (https://www.sylvania-automotive.com/sylvania-2721-long-life-mini-bulb-2-pack/2721LL.BP2.html)

Thank you, I had a bunch of extras because I replaced my dash lights with LED's.

Sometimes these rigs will drive me crazy...so often a problem that could be minor turns out to be major, but in this case it was the opposite...but of course I assumed the worse and bypassed the easy fix 🤦
