Title: 2003 U295 instrument panel lighting problem
Post by: Chris and Rhon-Ivone on December 27, 2022, 09:09:07 am
Hello fellow owners,

Having a minor issue with my instrument panel lights and wondering if anyone has experienced this problem.

Would driving at night, the lighting for the headlights switch and climate control will flicker on and off. The headlights and climate are working, but the lighting on the panels so not stay on consistently. I'm sure it is a short somewhere.

Any clues or advice?

More likely a loose/poor ground to the dash panel than a short.

I had similar symptoms and it was actually the dimmer switch going wonky. I rotated it back and forth a couple times and the issue resolved itself

That sure sounds like a loose connection, but those symptoms were a precursor to my electroluminescent inverter dying and the headlight and climate control panels going dark.  The OE inverter is longer made.  It is a 12v DC to AC inverter with high frequency output.  I removed it.  Noted some voltages and frequencies off the original, and then replaced it with something close.  They are readily available off the internet.  They were very inexpensive, and I figured I might need to try several.  Got lucky with the one that I bought.  Works like a charm going on 8 years now.  Higher frequency is brighter so err a bit higher rather than lower.  Still dimmable with the panel dimmer.
