Title: Side mirror wiring
Post by: James Bock on January 09, 2023, 11:57:55 am
I've got my passenger side mirror off and wondering if anyone has removed the pins from the 8pin connector? And did you use something special like a pin extractor..... pic of the cannon plug

Haven't messed with that plug specifically, but most plugs of that type use the same design.  Each wire has a brass crimped-on terminal piece.  Each brass terminal piece has a little spring-loaded flat section that catches on the inside of the plug.  The trick is to insert a very small thin flat-blade screwdriver into the plug alongside the wire, gently disengage the brass catch, which should then allow you to pull the wire out without damaging the terminal.  Once you get the hang of it, it is pretty easy.

No guarantee this technique will work on that plug, but worth a try.

Thanks for the reply Chuck! I did figure it out, I've used pin extractor, but this set up wasn't like that. I just used small blade needle nose to squeeze the outer plastic where the prongs were.... Now to figure out how to remove the mirror body from the arm where it sits on the ball mount.....

A picture would help but last winter I removed one from friends CCoach while at their place in mexico and there was a steel pin that had to be pressed out to allow disassembly.  Have a close look to see if you can see one on yours.
