I've got a 24/3000 victron multiplus that I'm currently running on the OEM wiring (12/2 gauge to and 10/2 gauge from). I would like to run 6/2 to and from in order to use 50 amp when plugged in or using the generator. Has anyone run this big of wiring into the bay? If so, how did you run it?
Depending on how your inverter is wired, I'm guessing it powers some outlets but is not powering the entire coach, so when it receives AC power from either shore or generator the inverter would only pass power through to outlets it supplies.
Also on battery power, it is rated for 3000 watts which is only 25 amps at 120 volts. Wiring for 50 amps I think would be overkill.
The change I would recommend is to change the "to inverter" wire to 10/2. When the inverter is receiving AC power, the "to inverter" wire has to handle power to charge the house batteries AND power passed through to the coach outlets it supplies.
The victron multiplus is both an inverter and charger. The situation I am refering to is when using the generator or shore power to input power. The current is limited to 20 amps when using the "battery charger" output in the panel. If I'm wanting to charge my batteries at 20 amp and also run an air fryer or AC or something, I would like to input more than 20 amps into the inverter. Since it's a hybrid inverter with power assist, I am able to use battery power while also charging by AC. Lastly, the victron is rated to have 6 gauge wire connected to it for 50 amp passthrough with no need for an additional transfer switch.
The other consideration is that I may want to add an additional or higher wattage inverter in the future. Running new wire would allow this. I am just curious if others have run new thicker gauge wire and how they ran it.
