How can you tell if Essex relay is bad. If it is what problems in system operation would it cause

The compressor wouldn't start. It is more of a start solenoid than a relay.

I'm having trouble with leveling coach. Aux compressor vibrated off isolation mounts, so I had used switch PO installed to turn off compressor and re mounted. Turned on switch and compressor pumped up to 90# and shut off. Over next 3 days pressure fell to 40# compressor didn't kick on. My understanding is should kick on at 60#. Checked power to switch, pump, and Essex Relay All good. Noticed Relay was really Hot to touch even though not running. Stayed ho with switch in both on and off position. Is that because systems were signaling for air?
I came in coach and started and aired up coach. Tried to level and when pressed level button twice it blinked 3-4 times then stayed lit. Did not level. Went back to basement and turned on switch to aux compressor it started and pumped up to 90# and shut off. I am waiting to see if it cycles as air leaks down Any way I can speed up air loss to check cycle? Any ideas why it's not leveling? What am I doing wrong?

Number of ways to run down air.
1. Open up tank drain valve on drivers side by tire (not sure it is in these locations on your coach)
2. Manual raise coach and then lower.  May need to do a few times.
If the relay was hot and compressor was not wanting to run, I would replace relay / solenoid.  There is a coil in the relay and when it has power it should pull in the contacts.  It coil has power it will start warming up.

Based on what you said I would replace the relay / solenoid since it sounds like it is intermitted.
