Title: 2006 nimbus 336 [Entry door mechanism/lock problems]
Post by: tmehrkam on February 21, 2023, 04:51:04 pm
Front entry door will not open from the outside.

Getting tired of borrowing ladders and climbing in the windows.

I have removed the lock. A little worn but should work. I can get to work for a while then breaks again.

Some one has worked on it before. There is a plastic piece inside under the lock. Starting to crack in the corners. Inside the door. Moves around a little. Always had and never caused a problem. Yesterday that changed. All looks the same but unreliable.

I removed the three screws removed both sides. All looks well worn a bit but should work.

Any ideas?

I hear rumors that these locks are unreliable. Some posts on the forum. Older coaches mostly older than mine. Contacted Foretravel had to leave message. No response.

Any one else have this problem.Thinking new lock and trim.

Door has popped a few screws around the seams but still straight with tight joints.

In Fredericksburg Tx camping.

Looking at the photos, that mechanism is different than those used 2003 and prior.  Not sure when Foretravel switched to that model.  It's likely from TriMark, though.

The mechanism is definitely different than my '02 but the door still looks like a PTL Engineering.  You might try them for replacement parts.  I purchased a replacement hold open arm from them and they were very helpful.  Does it have a Schlage type key cylinder on the exterior?

Two small locks on outer latch. Not another lock.

That's PTL's model number for the door.  They might be able to tell you the lock/latch mechanism part info and supplier.

FIXED! cost a few hours of time and aggravation on the trip.

Locked the latch and tied the door closed with a rope and boy scout knots. Spend two days in Brazos bend State park in Texas and made it home without problems.

Did some maintenance at the farm and today finally had time to address the lock issue. Remove the lock and assembled the inner and outer parts 0f the door.  The lever on the outer lock was not engaging the lever on the inner lock.  the inner plate was warped maybe 1/4 inch.

What the heck decided to fix or break the latch. Put a heavy piece of wood in my big shop vice.  Used ball ping hammer to straighten the back plate.  Was able to do it without defacing anything.  Straightened the lever coming from the outdoor lock the same way. Hammer and vice grips.  Put the two pieces together out side the door,  Examined to make sure levers engaged.

Reinstalled inner and outer locks and snugged down the screws without forcing anything.

Works like brand new.  Will order a new inner spacer.  Cosmetically it is cracked and the corners are missing. No hurry it will work fine.

Thanks for all the comments.

They were a great help as always.

Installed the new bezel. Two hundred percent better. The inside red deadbolt handle broke. Looking for something to use for a replacement.
