Title: Wndows Gasket/Seal/Spline Replacement
Post by: trailertrashrick on March 05, 2023, 10:38:19 pm
A couple of years have passed since we have our residential refrigerator installed in our 1997 U320.  Now, while I was waiting to get new tires installed, I noticed the exterior seal of one of the big side windows is starting to sag.  I'm guessing that was the entry point for the refrigerator and it got stretched during removal.  Anybody have a source for new supple rubber for these windows?  It should just be cut to length and press in, right?

They are D shaped self adhesive 1/2 in. rubber seals. Not hard to change if the old rubber comes off easy. If not takes lots of adhesive remover or a rubber wheel to remove. Window frame flange must be clean. I just ordered mine from foretravel but have seen them on Amazon.

What I'm looking for is not the D-shaped weather stripping.  Foretravel sent me some that that's not it.  They don't have any of what I'm asking for.  It's a thicker harder rubber with ribs on the side to hold it in.  The flat side is actually on the outside.

On closer inspection, they don't hold the window in like I thought.  In a  house, they'd be a spline that would snap the window into the frame.  I think these just keep leaves and dirt out of the window channel.  I'll keep a lookout for them and post here if I find any.

I was able to find a replacement that fit.  It's not exactly the same, but works well.  Maybe better(?).  It was at Steele Rubber (of course).  Steele Rubber Products - RV - Window Molding Track Weatherstrip | Steele... (https://www.steelerubber.com/window-track-weatherstrip-70-4500-257#70-4500-257)

It took about five minutes to replace one window.  It was worth it just to have one task done that didn't take several days of 1-2 hour sessions :)

Thanks for sharing! Noticed that we have lost the trim on one of our windows and was struggling to figure out the replacement!

Just gotta figure out how many feet and where to ship! Lol
