Title: Windshield wipers
Post by: Mneel on March 21, 2023, 04:22:05 pm
How do wipers work on a 2001, 320? Is there 1 motor with a link for the wipers or is there 2 motors?

My 2001 u320 has one wiper motor and linkage. I opened up/ enlarged the access hole on  top to access mounts screws from top side. AC evaporator was below. Mounts screws were loose causing it to cluck during operation. Smooth and quiet once they were tightened up. Used loctite pink to prevent in future.

Our excellent free-of-charge Forum Library includes a couple factory parts manuals: 2000 U295 and 2003 U320.  They are (each) fairly large files so if you are limited to the amount of data you can use each month might want to avoid downloading the whole file.  I copied the wiper motor assembly photo below.  It may help you visualize how motor linkage works?

thanks Chuck. When my windshield was replaced  the nut on the small control arm on the driver side broke.  We tried JP welding it but it fell off today I need to replace that part. I might have to rebuild the whole thing because the last time I was in a heavy rainstorm I did not like the way the windshield wipers were working. Other than the factory what's a good resource for these parts? A year or two ago I ordered some parts for the windshield washer and they were not the correct parts and neither was the springs.
I think that was from like a bus company.
I used gorilla glue today to put the nut back on but it's going to fall off the first time I use it.

Sorry, can't help with source for parts.  I have used our windshield wipers probably only two or three times in the last 10 years.  They seemed to work OK but that's all I know about them.  I have never had to replace any parts, other than blades.

I have had the passengers side assembly out as the shat broke out of the plate and I rewelded it.
A picture would help of the nut you mentioned as I don't know what nut you mean. Also rain-x
really works well and I clean my windshield with it all the time so I don't use my wipers that much
and it rains a lot here.
