Post by: Rick & Julie on April 01, 2023, 06:32:44 pm

Hello Mark, Would you have a picture of the screen door that you could share?

Hi Rick. The FT is in my storage building tight up to the wall so the picture would not be very good. When the five feet of snow melts I will get back in touch. I think years ago someone else asked me the same question, I tried to find my old posts but didn't have any luck. My 280 is the SE model, maybe that is why it has a screen door.

Thanks Mark, I will wait patiently for some pictures. I have the same model and year as you have. A1995 Grand Villa 280SE.
I am the second owner but does not have a screen door. It appears as though it never had one. Picture attached.

I will take a picture tomorrow from the inside like your picture. I just can't open the door all the way to get good pictures of how it is hinged, etc. Mark

I hope this works, I-Phones, computers, photography and spelling are not my strong points.

I want one....
Good to see that it's doable. Sure would save some wear n tear on my door.

I'm also interested in a softer seal for the door. Really don't like slamming the thing to close.

And If I remember correctly the 95 years and maybe others are an aircraft door and smaller than others ??

I had the same problem with having too slam the door.....after taking the interior panels off the door found that the door was cracked and bend at the lower side of the window.....that is the weak are on these units...ended up forcing the door straight with a 2x4 and riveting/reinforcing that area with rivets and a plate. Closes now with the push of a Pinky...:O)

I called parts at the mother ship today. 1995 Grand Villas and maybe more years were built with two doors. The corners at the top of the door being radiused as mine are or square as I presume that Marks are as the picture does not include the top of the door. Screen doors were only available on the square top doors and are still available thru Foretravel parts department. Sorry I didn't ask the price. Another note the seal for the radius door is no longer available. I am going to visit a local mom and pop aluminum door and window manufacturer in my area in Ohio and see if it is possible. I will post my findings on this.

Sorry Mark,
Upon reviewing your pictures once again I can see that the top of the screen door is square.

Hans.  Thanks for the feedback and I may need to pull that panel off the door  to check things out.  Assuming yours is a GV.

Rick. I hope your able to get the weatherstrip issue solved.  Please post your results.

  Safe travels.

Having a screen door is priceless. I have one on my U225 but did not have one on my 1981 Foretravel.

Frank could you snap a picture of the upper 1/3 of the door both open and screen closed. Im trying to get ideas about how the door hinged and what it is mounted too. Are they using a rubber seal as the door stop for the screen when closed like the 320 does?

Scott that was the only photo I had that showed that much of the screen door.
Contact forum member Ron "rinron", he just posted info about "Gelled Fuel",  I'm sure he'd get that for you as he currently owns
that beautiful GV.

Had to laugh, priceless until it becomes unaffordable, then worthless

Hello Frank and Connie, Do you know if your screen door was on the coach when it was built?

Hello Frank and Connie, Do you know if your screen door was on the coach when it was built?

I have no reason to think otherwise, same screen latches and hinges that other models used.
Just assumed all GV's had screen doors till this topic came up.
Chuck and Jeannie's '93 U280 has the same screen door.

Did you guys ever find out anything more?  I just had the wonder today if a screen door existed for our '95 U300SE and came and found this post.  I'm sad to say our has the rounded top corners otherwise I'd be calling the parts department to get a screen door right now 😂 It sure would be nice to have one.  I always wondered why we didn't have one when it seems most motorhome manufacturers include them.
