Hi All,
I have a water leak in the motor, Its down under the motor on the right hand side standing at the back of the coach looking at the motor,
Its a 300 HP turbo Cat, 3208 Motor,
There is two short hoses there, I have taken both out and put them back in and its not them leaking,
But it is leaking from where they go to up inside the motor,
It pours out as fast as you pour water into the radiator,
Could this be a blown welch plug, A gasket gone, The water pump leaking out from behind,
I had to buy a battery operated 5 inch grinder, Batterys and a battery charger to enable me to cut the head off one bolt to get the plate out with all the pulleys on it to get at the hoses, Grrrrrr,
I spent fours day working on it, This was after I had replaced the hose underneath that had blown a big hole in it,
I had to put the coach up on blocks and jack the motor up to get underneath it,
Two days into our two week holiday, Its 700 Kays from home,
Heavy Haulage Tow Truck from Melbourne and back, to get my Coach to a local diesel mechanic close to home,
He has worked on my coach before and is very good at it,
The nearest Tow truck from Mallacoota was 250 Kays away, In Either direction,
But I dont know what their mechanics are like and its 300 kays from my place, So its a long way to go and check on it,
So I decided to Float it home, But the tow truck driver came out to drive the Float and it had a diesel leak in the tank, So It was the Tow truck instead,
I have no idea whats up there as I cant see inside it with out putting it up on a hoist,
Sorry to hear of your predicament .
I dont have a good pic here of what might be leaking .
IMHO, If it "glugs" out as it drains, the hole must be large. freeze plug size if you cant pour water in as fast as it runs out .
If it kinda pisses out , might be a gasket. You should be able to fill the rad faster than a small flat shaped leak. Maybe .
Same as a hose leak .
Does the engine run on all cylinders? Smooth?
Yes it still runs smoothly, That was later when it was cold again,
I drove about 10 miles on a narrow winding road before I stopped, If I stopped, The road would have been blocked to all traffic,
When I stopped, There was not even a drip dropping out, It had been totally drained,
I filled it and the water ran out the back of the motor only, I repaired that one and then the front one started,
Took both small hoses off and they were good,
Then we filled it again and its running out, And I do mean running out, Its a big hole, What ever it is,
Brian, any update on water leak? Running a diesel completely out of coolant leaves many possibilities.
Brian, just saw your thread not good at all, 700 Kays, im assuming 700 Kilometers or as I would understand 435 US miles.
Hoping for some good news, but not expecting it. Every engine Ive ever dealt with that was over heated usually is problematic till end of life. You never know what you are buying used. Here prices range from 2K -15K it looks like.
🤞

It got it towed back to Melbourne on a heavy haulage tow truck, Its now in the hands of my diesel Mechanic,
Nearest heavy tow truck down there was either Pambula in NSW or Bairnesdale, Both about 250 Kays in either direction,
For the cost of it and not knowing the Mechanics at either place,
I decided to tow it home and get it repaired locally,
I can check on it and any parts that are hard to find by my Mechanic, I can get them on my PC,
Now its wait and see, when he gets around to fixing it,
