Title: tire question
Post by: Lt403 on April 26, 2023, 03:44:18 pm
Hi everyone,

Should your tires always be able to carry the GAWR specified by the manufacturer?

I currently have Michelin XZE2's on the coach. They came with the coach and we have put over 30,000 miles on them and we are happy with them. However, when i look at the specs for this tire they are only rated for 6175 lbs per single tire which gives me 12,350 lbs. The front axle is rated at 13,880 lbs.

Max load for dual application is 5675 which gives me 22,700 lbs. the rear axle is rated at 21,000 lbs.

thanks

It's always best practice to weigh your coach to ensure proper tires and tire pressure. If you're over 12,350 lbs on the front axle, then you're playing with disaster. I hear losing a steer tire isn't fun. Without knowing what your exact specs are (weight, tire size and load range), it's hard to give you an answer. Generally, you want load range H tires for these coaches.

For example, Michelin X Line Energy Z load G is rated the same at 6175 lbs per single tire. Load H is 7160 lbs and covers more than needed on that 13,880 lb front axle.

thanks Zach,

My tires can carry the load i'm carrying but they can't carry the GAWR for the front axle

we have only weighed the coach on a CAT scale once when we bought it almost 4 years ago.
front axle was 11,360
rear axle 19940

we are probably a little heavier now but i am always keeping things off the coach because of weight and fuel .

I know the coach should be weighed on all four corners but our timing has been off getting that done.

I need new tires and i'm thinking of going with the XZE which will more than cover the GAWR for the front axle at 7160 per tire in a single application.
