Title: Solenoid coils hot
Post by: Charlieboise on May 26, 2023, 05:12:54 pm
Finally got around to rebuilding the 6 packs on my 03 U320. The drivers side tag travel and lower coils were pretty hot to the touch. Hot enough where most could not hold em for more than 4 or 5 seconds. Stayed hot for the hour I was there.

I didn't look at the hwh control panel in the bay but I do know the leveling system is NOT activated from the panel in the bus.

Anyone have an idea on what I'm dealing with here ?

The only reason the are hot is because they have power to them. If key is off  and not in auto level they should not have any power going to them.

Still in the process of isolating this problem.  Learned a bit about tag axle operation.  So my right side tag enable valve is open with +12v and the right side tag exhaust is open with +12v. These are the only valves open on the coach. No lights on the panel,  not in travel mode, and ignition off.

The following came put of the HWH training guide.  I have the tag Manifold with tag enable valves.

Both of these manifolds are equipped with tag lift valves. In the tag lift mode, the travel valves (or tag enable valves) are off. This isolates the tag axle air bags. The lower (tag dump) valves are open to exhaust the tag axle air bags. The tag lift valve is open. This supplies air to the tag lift mechanism.

In the travel mode, the travel valves (tag enable valves) are open so the tag axle air bags are inflated. The tag lift dump valve is open to exhaust air from the tag lift mechanism. The tag lift dump valve is open any time the travel (tag enable) valves are on.

So the last sentence is where I seem to be.  It appears as though when I came out of travel mode this one side of the tag Manifold is still trying to dump the lift air and put the axle back down.

Head scratcher when everything is off.  Gonna try the HWH reset after I check to the control box to isolate which fuse is supplying this power.

If anyone knows which fuses I need to check it could save me some time.

Thanks
