The time has come to replace the back up camera and since I've already installed a See Level tank monitor system the only remaining functions of the Javelina system are the compass and outdoor temperature, both of which I can do without. I've broken the project into three main components: pulling the wire 42' to the rear of the coach through the roof cove/conduit extrusion, installing the camera behind the (unremovable) air intake grille at the top of the rear cap (in place of the original camera), and installation of the monitor in place of the original monitor. Well this has been a whole lot more disassembly than I anticipated but I have managed to pull the wire and install the camera. I'm in the process of installing the monitor and I've gotten the old monitor out but I'm stumped trying to remove the bracket and the glass from the backside of the dash that was installed as part of the monitor. It looks as though there are machine screws fastening it to the aluminum dash panel but they are not accessible from the exposed side of the dash. Has anyone successfully figured this out?
For clarification, I've edited the photo to show the screw(s) that seem to be holding the aluminum rectangular frame to the back side of the aluminum dash. There are four of these screws plus four smaller studs that were used to mount the old monitor to the rectangular bracket. I believe the bracket sandwiches a piece of glass that covered the face of the old monitor. I'm trying to remove the glass and the bracket so that I can flush mount the new monitor.
I left my glass in place and use it for the suction cup mount for my Garmin gps.
I also removed my oem radio and mounted my camera monitor over the space.

It has been years since I made the same switch so I don't remember exactly the process. However, since you have removed the nuts from the studs, have you tried to gently pry the aluminum rectangle from the back of the panel? It may be that they used some adhesive at the factory to help mount the aluminum frame. Worth a try.

Geodmann...How hard was it to install your sea level system ? Do you have pics?
Peter when I installed me Sea Level System I used the old wires going to the Javelin and put the
sea level panel in where the Javelin was. I only used one set of strips and did like Bob did.
I put the fill strip at the bottom and the gray and black water I put on the top of the tanks. It works
fine and saved money.
Peter, my See Level installation was fairly difficult for the following reasons:
1. My grey tank is located on the driver side and access required complete disassembly of the wet bay.
2. My black and fresh tanks are on the passenger side so that side needed to be disassembled as well.
3. I wanted the control panel to be located in the kitchen so I had to remove the washer/dryer, more disassembly, and fish the wires up the skinny cabinet walls.
4. I have a second control panel in the wet bay on the drivers side.
5. I used all new wiring
6. I still need to run an additional wire for the LP gauge.
I managed to pry the old monitor frame off of the studs and press the glass out as well. Almost ready to mount the new monitor. I do have another item to identify. There is a small cylinder shaped electronic device with two small wires and a red plug connection. The cylinder appears to just be adhered to the back of the aluminum dash panel just below where the dimmer knob for the old monitor was located. I tried to follow the two wires from the plug but they just disappear into the mass of wires under the dash. Any help identifying this device would be appreciated as I would like to remove it or at least relocate it in order to install the new monitor.
I replaced my javelina monitor and rear view camera 4? years ago but mine look different than that. Mine was like an old black and white CRT that extended several inches behind the dash. Definitely didn't look like yours and I didn't have that round thing with wires coming out of it. What's on the other side of it?
I just double-sided taped my monitor to the hole that to javelina monitor was in. But since my dash radio died, a really nice DVD pioneer head unit with a flip-up screen I have to replace it with a a newer unit that allows for two cameras I may just replace the backup camera completely again.
Just bumping this to the top. Surely someone with small electronics experience can take a guess at what the mystery device is shown in the photo.
Second question, does anyone know where to grab a trigger signal for the back up camera? I'm wondering if it's as easy as picking it up on the back side of the Allison shift pad but I don't want to experiment with that unless someone can tell me that it works. I also don't know how to remove the shift pad so any insight into that would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance.
I can make a guess if the dash has the high voltage illuminator that might be the what it is.
If you're referring to electroluminescence, I don't think that my dash has that. I got the sense that that was a feature of the 97-01ish vintage.
Maybe it is the thing that makes alarm sounds like turn signal or high temperature.
