Title: Build Numbers
Post by: Gerry Vicha on June 19, 2023, 07:06:33 am
Are Foretravel "Build Numbers" Consecutive ?
My Coach, a 1994 U300 40', on the title has a Build Number of 4466, and was built in October of 1993. I noticed that Jeff and Sandy's Coach has a build Number 4344, and is titled as a 1993. Don't know their build date.
So who has Coach number 4467 or 4465 or all the coaches in between ?  ???

Coach builders start building next years coaches in the early Spring of previous model calendar year. A 1993 model coach was started in 1992. 2024 model coaches are being built now.

Bringing this back up. How are "Build Numbers" assigned? Is there a "Sequence"? Are they "Consecutive"?  Does Anybody know,???  ???  ???

Consecutive/sequential at least until the Realm was introduced.  Based on when the coach goes into production.

Once the Realm came out, that scheme was discontinued.

Our '93 U280 says APR 1993 on the metal ID plate, build number 4359.

My 1999 build # is 5400, bought by the original owner in April of 99. James Triana was the lead tech on the build.

If the subject "build numbers" is of interest, try combing through the archives.  There have been attempts to compile a sequential record of build numbers, with varying success.

Need build numbers/build dates for 2003 and later (split from FT production) (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=23217.0)

O.K. So lets go back to my original post;  My Coach is number  4466.  Who has Coach number 4464, 4465, or 4467, / Is there a coach that was manufactured with those numbers????  I can not find any Foretravel coach's with consecutive build numbers.    "Following one after another without interruption; successive"

Not all coach owners are forum or internet users. I would bet that on the assembly line they didn't skip numbers. maybe look at old Motorcade books.

Reply #17 shows consecutive numbers on the assembly line.

Perhaps Michelle could talk nice to Steve and convince him to write a program that would sift through all of the Forum profile pages and compile a sequential list of Coach Build Number + Display Name.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind doing this in his spare time...

I did something like this a couple months ago as I was curious how many 2007s there were and which models were built.  Consequently, I tripped something (or someone  :D ) up so I can no longer browse user profiles.  :o

Anyway - I have the data, but I'll defer to Michelle whether it should be posted.

^ that's odd (not being able to see profiles).  I also had to approve the post itself.  Let me dig into it.  May be a glitch with the software update.

I would hesitate to post the entire member/coach list in the main part of the forum.  Members may have privacy concerns.

@Michelle - looks like my profile is fixed now - thanks!  I'll PM you my list of user and builds.

Yup - we don't have a good explanation other than it looks like your profile got fat-fingered into the "guest" group when Steve was testing new features back in November.  Sorry about that! :-[

To bring this full circle - within 5 build numbers before or after yours, this looks to be the only forum member that has posted in the last few years  1995 U320 (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=37829.msg393129#msg393129)

So this is an interesting discussion. I have often thought of searching out coach owners around my build number to discuss various issues they have encountered
So. Putting this out there.  My coach is a 1998 u329 (built late 97) with the build number 5359
Anyone out there with build number close to that??
Peter

For what it is worth, Keith Risch told me that at one time in the early 2000's he was the only test driver, but production was going so fast that he could not keep with the responsibilities.  So Aubrey started to help and they split the job and each did every other one, with  them taking the odd or even coach numbers duties.  I think my odd SS# was then driven by Aubrey.

Peter - here are some that are close.  Not sure if they are current owners or still active on the forum: JimBroadhus, old 1320, Kiwitex, DicksonP (former owner of yours), dengineer, Seven7, 18360, dossroberts

Build number may not necessarily mean much in terms of issues, your 320 was just 1 build off from my 295 but there are many differences between them mostly unrelated to build I would think.
I believe they were on different production lines, perhaps someone more knowledgeable can confirm?
I'm thinking that the circumstances of ownership might make more of a difference, like if one was in the northern states it would be more likely to have rust for example. Or if one was only stored outside, while another was inside climate controlled storage.

Nope, there was 1 line back then. You may have had a 320  40' and a 34' 270 back to back on the line. If they were short on 320s there might have been 3 in line or if they were short on a 295 they might have made 3 (one each length) There was no real order to what was going down the line.

Our 98 u295 build # 5257 was sold originally at Kodac TN and ordered with aqua hot to a couple from Maine  Not sure if that build is as close as what you are looking for

Our 98 u295 5252 was ordered with an Aqua hot and a 10 kw power tec which was mounted on air bags. Depending on what the owner ordered they could be different than one that was not specifically ordered.

I knew someone here would know about this, thanks for clarifying.
