Title: aqua hot white smoke puff
Post by: Slow Ride on June 27, 2023, 06:01:47 pm
Went on our first trip (5000 miles) in our recent purchase in Dec of 2022. (2001 U295 aqua hot model #AHE-101-000, ser#00-177) It would leave black soot on ground, but seem fine, talked with Scott Davidson, he said replace fuel nozzle and clean unit when i get home. I have ran the unit once a month since getting back home. Last month it would not fire. Today finally got to the job of cleaning and replacing fuel nozzle. It fired right up and ran a complete cycle, but would shoot a short puff of white smoke every few minutes during the cycle. Is this normal??? Thanks for any help.

Let it run for a day and see if it clears up. Might be clearing out some unburned fuel.

Some burners emit a short puff of white smoke on start up and others on shut off.  I am not familiar with a puff during the firing cycle but clean during the majority of the cycle.

So run once per month or more and keep an eye on it.  White continuous smoke during firing can be caused by an air leak in supply fuel line.

And when installing the nozzle, tighten, loosen and tighten a second time

Thanks for the replies, I will run it again tomorrow and advise. Also would you know the best source for a relay, I have one of the 3 that shows signs of being hot? Model # 1A486F General Purpose Relay Mfd. for Dayton Electric Mfg. Co.
I Also found out why my engine preheat did not work, I opened the panel and found the engine hoses disconnected from there ports and  coupled together. I supposed a previous owner may have had issues with the circulation pump. I did not check the pump yet to see if it is bad...

Relays

aquahot.com, click on purchase, search for relays

There probably is a crack in the copper elbow in the copper tube from the pump to the copper tube going straight up,  It is a lot of fun resoldering it.  Or you can sweat the elbow off and replace with a rubber heater hose with molded elbow from auto parts store.  Cut to size
