Blew a hydraulic line for the steering driving into the driveway. Has anyone replace the steering
hydraulic lines. It looks like a horrible job. The leak was caused by wearing on retainers that hold
everything up. I believe I can get Aeroquip fitting to repair it and if I can I would like to change
the rear portion of the line. The break is just rear of the rear-end.
I have repaired hoses like that. You need a disk grinder because of the stainless steel braid. be sure to clean the inside of the hose you are splicing to. You will need a coupling like the one below and a male version also. You know how to get the right size.

Yes Chuck I cut out the bad part so I have a piece to take into the shop and that's the type
of fitting I'm hoping they have.
When you get to chopping that hydro line it's a good idea to wrap where you're going to cut with insulation tape. It keeps the hose cover from fraying.

Yes, a splice may work, but that hose is close to 25 years old.
Pulling a new hose all they way isn't a lot of fun, but also is not rocket science. Two people and one hour will do it. Just drop the "trays" at the top of the basement compartments. A coat hanger or short fish will get you through the bulkhead areas.
I used a zip blade to cut the old hose so I got a perfect cut. Thanks Brett I will check it out.
I guess it will be not much harder than pulling threw the fuel lines, although pulling in
the generator fuel lines was a bitch. Does anyone know the length to the line.
Think I would do what Brett said,you could do both hoses,and don,t forget to get swivel fittings.

Didn't you have another line failure a while back? First thing I thought of was Hope you're home. Yep they are all old and will never be what they originally were new. Hope you're not being a trend setter for everyone else. Splicing to get home. Replace to insure reliability.
It was the pressure line and took about 30 seconds to empty the tank and a bag of absorball
to cleanup the mess.
Got to work on it this afternoon and it isn't a one hour job. I called Foretravel and Brad said I
need 37 ft. for the high pressure and 35 ft. for the low pressure. I need to drop the fan for the
generator so I can get at the return line but the nuts inside keep spinning. I kept tension on
one of the bolts and I think it would come apart. Any ideas.
It is almost a 2 man job for the farthest in boLts. I positioned a box wrench on the wheel side and wrenched from the inside. i can't remember who welded the bolts to a strip of steel for future removal.
When I needed some air fittings I went to this company, they are located all over the USA.
They can come out and replace and make a new line, as I remember they were very reasonable for there mobile work.

Thanks Chuck I guess I have to do the rad bolts and they are 1/2 an inch longer than they should
be and I will figure out a way so I can take the blower off with the 8 bolts for the future. I was
hoping that I missed something. Thanks I never thought of a mobile hose truck but there is a
hose place near me that I have used before and I can get wholesale.
Just to update. I just replaced the rear section. I replaced nine feet of hose and that was a bitch to
pull through. The first quote I had on the hose was over $17 a foot but when I went to pick up the
hose it was just over $9 at foot and the hose needs to be DOT approved for pressure and heat. The
return line would be cheaper. Hopefully I did the right thing. It would probably be a days job to do
the whole thing.
