After updating our porch light to LED, I was looking around a various other cabinets that have fully or partially burned out light strips that turn on when the cabinet opens. These were factory installed incandescent light strips pre-LED availability I guess. I found one in the AV cabinet above the driver's seat that showed signs of severely overheating. We're lucky that it didn't start a fire. That tubing should be essentially clear not chocolate brown and you can see the spots that look and smell like fire. I am going to go through all cabinet lighting and replace with LEDs. I may just go to the metal supply store and get some 1/2 in wide aluminum strip to mount the LED strips to so the have a rigid backing and some heat dissipation.
Definitely worth a look if you still have the older factory install incandescent rope lights. A lot more watts/heat in the old incandescent strips.
I had posted on another thread that I was done using cheap LED strips from Amazon or eBay that burn out quickly. Actually I found that I had recently purchased from SuperBrightLEDs.com and they have a "lifetime" warranty.
