Title: Residential Refrigerator Door Lock
Post by: pthurman48 on September 06, 2023, 01:30:13 pm
I have a magic chef Residential Refrigerator I installed.  Works good.  I do need a door lock/latch.  On the last trip the door came open a couple of times.  You know what happened.  No messes just a lot of pick up.

who knows of a DIY lock/latch?

Pat,

We tried a few different types including the on that came with the coach.

So far like these the best.  We have bottom freezer  with one on each h side.  Side by side doors will 1 between them. Fast and easy to latch and unlatch. Only time a problem was when I forgot to latch.

I'm using the same locks on the pantry doors. The drawers inside sometimes would come unlatched and push the door open.

This is the one I use on my Magic Chef, got it from Thor of all places...works great!

Thor Motor Coach
Customer Service 877 855-2867
"Refer Travel Lock"
Part # 031 5479

Thor orders them in large lots when their inventory is running low and L&W Engineering makes them up for them. L&W's part number is 103 1146
I don't remember exactly what I paid but it was a little north of $30. I thought at the time it was a little pricey for what it is but I'd hate to make one up myself for that.......

I made my own out of stainless.

My solution is two elastic 1/4" cords: the "eye" of a locking hasp on the wall side and a clear 3M hook mounted sideways on the exposed cabinet. Still need to use refrigerator bars for each shelf during travel because on winding roads the shelves do not hold back items so it can be a juggling act when you first open the door. Has worked for nearly two years.

Pat, Your style residential refrigerator needs three mods: home-made door locks, fridge bolted down, all 4 edges sealed to cabinet to keep outside air from entering coach interior. With one item left out, check to see the other two items were not also forgotten.
