Title: Streaking From Roof
Post by: Res777 on September 10, 2023, 11:11:52 am
I am getting some white streaking on the side of the coach. I'm guessing it's maybe some chalking from the fiberglass roof. It's minor but irritating. Any suggestions on how to prevent or minimize this.

Thanks,
Robert

Both Xtreme and FoT offer a paint roof coating option.

Yes, chalking from the white FG. On a morning with a lot of dew, it runs down on the windshield, sides, etc. The gel coat on the sides is much better than the roof or front/rear caps. Machine polishing followed by some kind of wax will work for a couple of years if stored outside, longer in a garage.

I pulled our solar panes, sanded with air/water mist HF jitterbug sander (excellent sander and cheap) with wet/dry and then did a Tip/Roll with white marine epoxy paint. Only roll if you use the catalyst as it's very toxic to breathe. It really takes two people, one with the roller and one with a good brush to really get the paint looking good. See YouTube videos for instructions. Ford Performance White was close on ours. Use a recommend abrasive to get traction on roof if you are up there much. Don't walk on a wet roof. Use ladder that extends at least 6 feet above roof so you can safely step off onto the roof.

Xtreme painted mine in Dec...no more streaks....plus its skid-resistant finish makes it a lot safer to walk around up there now.

Not a permanent solution, but I have got up on top and pressure washed the roof, which gets most of it off.  Then I washed it with soap and finally waxed it like I would a car or boat with Meguiars marine wax.  Took the whole bottle.  I didn't do the best job looking at it across the surface, but the white streaks stopped.  Probably needs to be done at least once a year as maintenance IMO.

I've had no streaks from the top. I washed the roof and then hand waxed it with turtle paste wax. I would wax 6 to 10 ft a day. That wax doesn't buff off to a shine easily but I put a good coat on it. I wait 2 years then repeat, I call it roof maintenance. Next time I may use a liquid polish the reason is obvious. The coach stays indoors so that certainly helps with any surface, especially the roof.
