Title: How To Safely Remove Windshield Wipers
Post by: WagonWheels on September 13, 2023, 02:43:13 pm
:help: Need to remove DS windshield wiper to adjust swing. Currently wiper travels too far to the street side and bangs into the windshield. Removed the two nuts, but unable to pry arm from splined shaft. Do I need the help of a special tool?  I tried using a flat pry bar but it wouldn't budge. Don't want to break something requiring taking the dash apart to replace the wiper motor/gear assembly.  Thanks.

Try a gear puller

You might need to tilt the wiper away from the windshield and then try to remove from the splines.  On cars it works this way and believe it does the same on the coach.  It is a safety.  You may, however, have a nut on the wiper motor assembly under the dash that is loose and causing the wiper to hit the post. That is what happened to mine, just an FYI!

Also spray the spline with some wd 40 or similar.

I loosen the nut and the put something under to pry and then hit the nut with a hammer.

I tried some silicone spray lubricant, but no cigar. I have a steering wheel remover tool, but it's too big.  Researched gear pullers on Amazon. They have a special gear puller for battery posts and wiper removal. Who knew?  Thanks for the replies.

The one for wipers doesn't work on our coaches. I have one and can use it on cars.

The puller you use may have a centering cone on the end of the shaft. Just put a small nut to act as a bushing so as not to damage the shaft. Once removed there is a cir-clip and a thin flat washer that can be removed to facilitate lubing the dry shaft.
