Title: Fuel cetane boost additives
Post by: dans96u295ft on September 20, 2023, 12:44:55 pm
In my old 96 300 Cummins I've been using Opti-Lube boost for several years. It absolutely gives me more power in a 12 valve and cleans the engine.
Please, no arguments. I know what I know and feel. The new diesel fuel is dumbed down to a point you need to add lubricity and cetane boost. Can you go without, sure. Injectors are cheap on a 12 valve! ha ha

I add some 2cycle engine oil to the fuel and anti gel for the Winter.

"Some less reputable brands of fuel additive have light engine oil as the active ingredient. Light engine oil makes an engine run smoother, but it fouls injector tips with repeated use. It also lowers energy content, horsepower, and mileage".

It knowing anything about the product, would it help and be ok for a Cummins m11 diesel?

Power Service brand Diesel Kleen is the only Cetane boosting additive endorsed by Cummins. I know that doesn't mean the others are bad, but I believe their endorsement means it likely won't do any harm.

Just added some Power Service to Alice.
Almost an instant and noticeable difference in performance.
A seat of the pants evaluation so I can't quantify the change, but she does MUCH better under acceleration and maintaining speed on hills.
