Title: Battery compartment area components
Post by: Grizman on October 26, 2023, 12:51:48 pm
When I took this area apart several years ago I pulled the box with the arrow so i could remove tanks. Well that box is no longer with us for one reason or another. Is this the isolator and if so what type of new one should I use in it's place?

Ben,

Do you have the original of the picture that you can blow up and read exactly what it is?

No, it gets too blurry for me to see it. I've found a few pictures here but I get the same results, blur.

OK, can you identify any of the wires that went into it by either number on them or by where they go?

I'll take a look when I get back to the house. I'm at my office on a rainy day.

Ben,

The item indicated by the blue arrow is not a battery isolator.  It was either a converter/charger or a inverter/charger.

Based on the model year of your coach, I would guess it was a converter/charger.

A original equipment battery isolator would look similar to the red component (with cooling fins) in the photos below:

Chuck & Jeannie,
I saw those pictures and saved them for future reference. Thanks for the info. It will come in handy.

If your "missing" item was a converter/charger, it would have 2 battery type cables running to it, plus a power cord that might be plugged into a nearby power outlet (regular 3-prong plug), plus possibly a small gauge wire going to a remote control panel.

If it was a inverter/charger, it is a bit more complicated.  It would be connected to the 2 battery type cables, plus it would hard wired to either one or two Romex type electrical cables, plus possibly a small wire going to remote panel.

Another photo of isolator with better detail, plus photo of a converter/charger:

On your coach, not sure what year you have, but probably early to mid 90's. The battery isolator is mounted to the frame rail behind the left rear wheel.
