Title: Fall Maintenance opinions needed
Post by: RvingJeff on October 27, 2023, 01:58:42 pm
I am gearing up and purchasing what I need to do maintenance on my 99 U320 3600 with 206k miles. I think I have grip on everything but a couple of things. If I could get some opinions on the following it would help greatly.

1. Air Dryer - Replace with complete unit or just replace desiccant cartridge. Current air dryer was replaced on 2/20 @ 193K miles. Seems to be working. I never see water or white powder when checking wet tank.

2. Transmission 4000 series - It has had transynd change last few oil changes. Last change at 194K. I had planned on just changing the filters, but I see several mentions that they have to be High Capacity filters when using transynd. Does this qualify kit-29540494? I am debating even if this needed at this point but not sure.

3. Engine Coolant Filter - I think I know the answer but it appears when you change to ELC that a bypass filter is installed. (Fleetguard WF2077). No reason to touch that right?

4. Hydraulic Filter - I have been searching around and still a little confused on this one. It appears the filter is in the holding tank. Does it have to be replaced? If you do replace it do you have to do a fluid change or can you just replace the filter? I think it is Nelson 84101B

I know PO took great care of this coach so there is no question there.
My list keeps growing....

RESPONSES IN SOLID LETTER CAPS

I am gearing up and purchasing what I need to do maintenance on my 99 U320 3600 with 206k miles. I think I have grip on everything but a couple of things. If I could get some opinions on the following it would help greatly.

1. Air Dryer - Replace with complete unit or just replace desiccant cartridge. Current air dryer was replaced on 2/20 @ 193K miles. Seems to be working. I never see water or white powder when checking wet tank. IF THE 2/20 REPLACEMENT WAS NEW OE BRAND VS JUST KIT OR "MADE TO REPLACE...." JUST FILTERS.  OR GET FACTORY (I.E. THE FACTORY THAT MADE IT) REMAN.  I LIKE TO ALTERNATE REMAN WITH FILTERS.

TOO FEW MILES ON TRANSYND TO REQUIRE REPLACEMENT.  AND TRANSYND HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED TO TRANSYND 668.  AS FAR AS FILTERS, CALL AN ALLISON DEALER WITH YOUR TRANSMISSION SERIAL NUMBER (DRIVER'S SIDE OF TRANSMISSION).

3. Engine Coolant Filter - I think I know the answer but it appears when you change to ELC that a bypass filter is installed. (Fleetguard WF2077). No reason to touch that right? YES, WITH ELC A FILTER BLANK IS NEEDED.  FULL FILTRATION, NO SCA. I WOULD PROBABLY REPLACE IF 3+ YEARS OLD.

4. Hydraulic Filter - I have been searching around and still a little confused on this one. It appears the filter is in the holding tank. Does it have to be replaced? If you do replace it do you have to do a fluid change or can you just replace the filter? I think it is Nelson 84101B. LIKELY THREE OF THOSE FILTERS STACKED.  IF MORE THAN 3-4 YEARS OLD, A GOOD IDEA TO REPLACE ALONG WITH THE COUPLE OF GALLONS OF OIL IN THE RESERVOIR.
