On my last trip the 4060 Allison started shifting weird sometimes. When it was acting up it
would shift hard and the shift would be slow to complete. This would happen and then it
would be shifting fine. The bad shifting happened about five times in a 1000 mile trip. I
haven't done any trouble shooting yet as we just got back.
Check for diagnostic codes from the driver's seat. No tools needed.
Key on, engine off.
Push up and down arrows at the same time
Push the up and down arrows at the same time AGAIN
That will bring up d-1. If there is a diagnostic code, record it.
Then push the mode button to bring up d-2.
Continue until you get d-whatever followed by - -. This means no more diagnostic codes have been stored.
Turn off the key.
What particular shifts (up) or (down) and what gear would be (all) (some) (one) ?
Thanks Brett I had forgot how to find the codes so you saved me looking for how to find them.
I found one code 21124. The 4 doesn't make any sense to me but as the weather was nice today
I didn't spend any time on it as it was nice this afternoon so I washed the car and coach.
The bad shifts are accelerating and all gears.
Sorry I was going by memory the numbers I got were 12214, just found the paper I wrote them
on.
Strange. All Allison diagnostic codes I have seen are two digits followed by two digits.
Yes, the d-whatever number appears first.
Could that have been d-1 followed by 2214??
I will check it out again later today.
d12214 I believe the code is 2214 I will phone the Allison Dealer next week and check it out
with them. I have had excellent help from them in the past and they didn't charge for putting
the trans on there computer.
Following info found in our excellent ForeForums Wiki, under "Transmission".

Thanks Chuck. Looking at the picture of the trans and I guess engine speed sensor is input sensor.
I've changed sensors before on the 3060 trans so it is an easy job. I will phone the Allison dealer
on Monday and makes sure they have on in stock.
