I am trying to source a Hydraulic filter for my Hydraulic pump situation.
can anyone tell me for sure which one is specific to the 2001 U295, as both appear near impossible to obtain.
Cummins / Fleetguard says they do not show as interchangeable or superseded numbers, I want to make sure if I do find them I get the right ones for my application before I go back to deal with my Situation.
Some say 87610A, others say 84101B.
Can anybody out there say for sure either would work? The 87610A is on national backorder, and I cant find one anywhere.

Both parts manuals for a late 90's/early 2000's U295 and U320 show the 84101 (technically -M, but I expect that's the same as B).

Preliminary look up suggests the ... A is a 40 micron filter. ....B is 10 micron.
Don't know what Foretravel recommended.
Finditparts had the specs.

thanks for the input sounds like either would work then. I had researched several posts that mention both side by side, but when I called Fleet guard for regional sourcing they implied they are not interchangeable. Fleetguard shows the 87610A to be in zero stock nation wide the 84101B very limited with one location at a distribution center in Atlanta....I have an order in for 3 that are supposedly coming from the ATL Dist center but at the moment still no ETA as to when.

Just an FYI FindItParts shows 87610A in stock ready to ship and 84101B delivered in 3 days.
And M&D Distributors shows 87610A to stock.

I'll look at those but my last experience with find it parts, the parts never arrived....they advertise alot of stuff they dont posess. Was trying to have these by the weekend. Never saw an M&D Distributors in my searches. I sunday night ordered them from The modern shop stated in stock....a lie....when I called them about status yestereday they told me on national backorder. I Now have an order in through Zoro for the 84101b, supposedly in stock shipped in 1 day....also a lie.....WHEN they get them from Cummins ATL then they will ship, but still no update as to has it shipped,
M&D shows them at $159 each once added to the cart.
Between next week and end of month at earliest.
I know this isn't much help as I don't have the part number but they make a single filter that takes the place of three of the 84101B filters. To use one of these you have to take the tank loose to do the swap out.

Mike, Sorry for the bad experience with Find It Parts. If you can't find them anywhere else, you may want to give them another shot.
I've used them for filters, air dryer, air bags, and more many times with no issues, and I believe others of this site have used them as well.

I have no affiliation with them, just passing on the info and my experience with them.
I have them on order now at 3 diff places, all claim to have them in stock, all claim fast shipping....1, I ordered sunday night, contacted me monday ETA unknown national backorder....2nd still no update on shipping, stating has to arrive from Cummins first.... The other I went with Find it, but they sent notice as part of the order...."limited national inventory, order may be delayed"....have had terrible luck with Find it on several occasions not just once, but Im in a bind and have to take chances....worst case I cancel order. I wont mind having a few sets if they all arrive.
As for mine, I have 3 hopefully arriving today from ZORO.....the 84101B. I have 3 more of the same coming from Moderngroup between tomorrow and monday.
When I attempted to order from M&D, (late night) it showed the total for 3 at over $477. Nobody to talk to late at night so avoided that route.
The 3 ordered from FindItParts, They had zero of the 87610A, but said they had 3 of the 84101B. No status as of this morning so I called them, they could not fill the order of 3 only 2, and that was going to be next week, I canceled that order.
Think I am good for going to get my coach back home. Hydraulic pump post still to update when I get some final facts.
Am I understanding this correctly? They use "3" filters stacked on top of one another in the canister. Following Mike's pump failure I'm concerned. TIA. Jim.
Correct. Held in place by a wing nut and large "washer". Once the lid is off, no tools needed.
But, you will want to siphon the tank dry before removing the filters or you will contaminate the "clean side" by allowing the unfiltered oil into it.

Not sure about all, but mine actually had a large drain plug. Much easier to drain vs siphon. From there a few rags got the rest bone dry.
Do these filters ever need to be changed if the system continues to perform properly?
Consider it part of routine PREVENTIVE maintenance.
If no problems in the system (power steering or cooling system fan(s), every 4-5 years is probably adequate.
If the filter does accumulate sufficient restriction (no way to tell until PS shows issues), it can starve the pump (read that $$$).
It seems as if the 10 micron filter would be preferable to the 40 micron filter—or would that create excessive restriction?

Sorry, no idea. That is why I suggested a call to Foretravel-- James Triana would be my first choice. If he doesn't know, he knows how to get the answer.

As Foretravel originally specified a Nelson 84101b that's what I would stay with. With 3 of those filters stacked I can't imagine much restriction. Just my observation but unless you have a problem with a pump or motor, not much chance for much contamination as those parts normally don't ware much.
With that said as these pumps motors and steering gears will run many types of oils, is there a better choice than 15-40 motor oil? Aw32, 46? Especially in colder climates.
I use Amsoil Signature series 15w40,no problems,yes it's pricey but the best oil out there,in my opinion.
Going back to my original intent of this post.
I will add to this I have found that ALL of the following filters will work for this application. At present I have MF0124509 running mine as that was the first one to arrive due to my stranded coach, pump situation.
84101B Fleetguard
87610A Fleetguard
MF0124509 Main Filter
W02AP536 WIX
The 87610a is a glass media 40 micron filter. The others are cellulose media 10 micron. That's a size able difference.
