So I was taking a closer look at my charge air cooler after cleaning it and I noticed what i thought was a crack in the top plate that the upper mounting brackets are welded to. Then I noticed that the opposite side has the exact same crack. After looking more closely, I think it looks more like a cut than a crack. Can anyone confirm that they do or do not have these same cuts on their CAC? If not any thoughts on what could have caused this? Doesn't seem to be a problem (so far).
I'll look at mine in the morning.
Yes, we have the same on CAC and have noticed this on other Foretravels as well.
Stops the expansion to prevent cracking at the tank on the tubes. Basically to prevent stress
Had similar issues years ago, think about removing the CAC and have it checked for leaks,on ours the bottom mounting tabs were
sheared off,we had the shop beef up and repair all mounting tabs, while it is off get new hoses try silicon hose .com.
This is ours after the repair. Looking for the before pic but in it that section had a weld or whatever you call an aluminum repair.
And as you can see, 3 of the mounting tabs were broke off. The only thing holding the CAC in place was 1 tab and the shroud surrounding it. It's heavy duty now.
And notice that top piece was welded to the rest of it. ( first photo ) That was original and not part of the repair.
Mine is like George's. All 4 corners are cut.
