Title: number of GV U280 model produced
Post by: Mateusz on January 12, 2024, 03:55:23 pm
Hello!
First of all, greetings from Poland!
I want to register a 1992 GV u280 as a historic vehicle.
I need information for the communications officer about how many units of the U280 model your company produced?
I will be grateful for the information! It will help me a lot!
Best to all of you guys!

Mateusz,

Welcome to Foreforums!  We aren't affiliated with Foretravel itself and generally don't have that data.  You might want to reach out to them directly.  You might start with the Parts or Technical Service contact e-mails and ask if they could direct you to someone who might have that information.

Or just make up a number. It doesn't sound like it's an important metric and, at least here in the US, the only double checking a DMV employee would ever do is on the current price of a Big Mac.

If you wanted to make an educated estimate, I just remembered that Jim McNeece collected build numbers (the coach identifier) a few years ago to try and model more recent production.  Build numbers are sequential.

Need build numbers/build dates for 2003 and later (split from FT production) (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=23217.msg178092#msg178092)

It looks somewhat linear in the timeframe you're concerned with; approximately 4100 at the beginning of 1992 and 4300 at the beginning of 1993.  So roughly 200 coaches in 1992, and there were several models available that year, the U-225, U-240, U-280, U-300, and apparently some front engine models:

If we ignore the front engine ones (likely very low numbers) and spread the 200 units over 4 rear engine models, maybe 50 U-280 units is a good starting point?  I'd even guess "worst case" if the U-280 was the most popular, the most would have certainly been less than 100.
