Title: Generator main breaker
Post by: craneman on April 26, 2024, 08:55:02 pm
After searching the main breaker for a 10k Powertech generator, old posts say it is unobtainable and if you buy one from Powertech they will sell you one that is smaller. Not sure if they are referring to size or amperage. Has anyone found a replacement lately? I am buying a used one on Ebay that may not be any better than mine. When running both airs 2 days ago on generator to test the system before leaving on a trip the main breakers tripped. Resetting them got power back. did it 3 time to make sure the problem was just in the two 45amp breaker assembly.

Check the Power Tech website.  Check their customer service and they can give you the correct part # for your generator, per the serial #.  Maybe can order from them or from a service center.

The breakers are no longer made, they have been discontinued. According to my searching the Forum and elsewhere there are only used ones to be found.

Cman,

Now that breaker should be an "A" series breaker. I carry a Blue Sea 7241 as a spare. My OEM was a 50amp but have seen some that were 45 amp. (maybe those are NLA) You can use any maker as long as it is a double pole120/240vac "A series" breaker.  One of theses are going to have to be gotten from some place like Dig-i-key, Allied, or some other electrical supply company. I have found these on eBay but you have to hunt as they aren't just everywhere.

This is what I bought and it looks like the 45 that came off. Is this considered an A series breaker? I need the 4 screw mounting on the front unless I make a whole new breaker box.

Could your system be drawing too many amps?

Just the 2 air conditioners, batteries were already in float from solar. This was just for a test before a trip. I actually won't need both airs until July in the San Joaquin valley. Been working since purchase in 2015 without problems.
