Hello all,
Our front ac failed. We still have 2 other working ac/heat pumps. Obviously these are expensive units and I'd rather not replace them all at once.
The new units come with a CC2 board preinstalled. According to dometic my only option is to downgrade the new CC2 unit to a 5 button board. Then upgrade the other 2 units to 5 button and thermostat. At a quite big expense!
This all leaves me wondering. Has anyone taken a new unit with a CC2 board and installed the 4 button board from the unit you are replacing? My control board is fine, compressor is seized. I'm sure there will be some safety feature or defrost feature not working but I suspect it can be made to work fine. Just curious what the group wisdom is.
The first problem I am finding is that the default state of the reversing valve on the newer units is cool whereas on my older penguin's it is heat. That's not an insurmountable problem. Really I want to just be able to use it in cool only until another unit (or 2) fails and then do a full ccc2 switchover.
There are those that feel straight air conditioners without heat pump are better suited for RVs. Heatpumps have refrigerant reversing valves and cost more. Heat rises keeping RV floor cooler, so why wear a ceiling heater when a floor heater does a better job.
