Title: Now that the air issues are fixed, anyone know about heart interface 1500w?
Post by: twobus on May 30, 2024, 10:36:13 pm
First off, it sure is nice to have the air leak fixed and a functional air dryer. But now the new problem is that the inverter isn't inverting. At the control panel, I can turn the pwr button on and the 2 led's will light up as if it wants a reset, but hitting the reset does nothing. I crawled around and verified the supply cable going to the inverter is live. and that the breaker switch on the inverter box isn't tripped. But I can't get to the inverter end of that cable without breaking insulation. I haven't yet removed the sheetmetal in the basement ceiling to see if there's a huge inline fuse that blew, I thought I'd inquire here first. Assuming I have volts at the inverter, is there anything else I should check or should I assume it's given up the ghost for no reason besides being ancient?

Jay,

I'm not familiar with the '89 U280, but on our '93 U280 the inverter fuse is located on the main 12V panel, behind a white fiberglass cover, on the aft wall in the big center storage bay.

See photos below and link to B-2126 electric schematic.  Inverter fuse is right above the yellow arrow.

Lots of changes in technology in the 35 years since that was made. I sold 89 u280's new. .

That's separate from why it currently does not work. Hopefully some here can help track that down.

Can you post a picture of the unit?  Possible it's not a 89 unit.

If you are getting12v to the inverter, then the fuse is good and the inverter is probably just bad. Mine was on the 91. The 04 inverteded but wouldn't charge the batteries. I've replaced both with Victron Multiplus II (https://www.victronenergy.com/inverters-chargers/multiplus-ii-2x-120v) The advantage of the Victron is that you can wire it in after the transfer switch and allow it to power everything, not just the circuits the old inverter did.

I've only verified power to the cable from the supply side, in the battery compartment. Juice is getting  to that cable past the isolator but I have found any fuse between there and the inverter yet. I check and yeah this is the original setup. I think there are only 2 possibilities, either my age batteries are putting out volts but no amps, or my 30 yr old inverter called it quits. So I think, battery amp check is next!

KG<, a quick query about your Victron. It looks like this rig's inverter is just an inverter and there's a separate charger/converter, was your setup similar? If so, how did you do the rewire?
