I'm having some issues with the aquahot hot in the 04. I replaced the coil because that was bad. Put a new nozzle on and have tested the flame sensor. I can get the unit to ignite and burn with it not in the housing. Just pointing out of the bay and it works fine. But it doesn't ignite when it's installed into the aquahot tank. I got it to light with it sitting close to the installed position and bolted it in place and it ran fine. I need to let it cool down and see if it reignites. I tried it after it sat for a while with all the heaters running. But it didn't start. It might have been too hot. Is there anything to look for that would cause this?
Wait for Rudy for conformation but flame sensor is suspect. How did you test it? Also your lighting the burner in the bay out of the chamber could be catastrophic.
My bet is the ignitor points are firing into the swiller when mounted to heater.
Remove burner, very carefully adjust ignitor points to just touch the "V"s in the gauge.
You can put the combustion chamber onto the burner when it is dismounted to watch the points arch. If into swiller, everything is working but no fire is ignited
I think I may have found the issue. I had the electrode spacing tool on the flats of the nozzle, not down on the lower nut. I think the electrodes are out too far.
Also, according to this chart for the 1553 controller, it's supposed to run the fan for 10-25s before igniting, and then light off? Does this sound right? Mine is lighting the instant it powers up.
Firing immediately is a failure of the control unit. Congratulations on fixing the ignitor gap but you need a new control unit now
Thanks for the insight Rudy and confirmation that the controller is bad. Looks like I'll be in touch with Frerichs to get a rebuilt unit. The Spheros black box units seem to get mixed reviews.
Do not purchase a Sperios black box. A reman silver box is fine and a new one is even better but lots more money
Aquahot test fire (https://photos.app.goo.gl/jZzeGAPdaceDgL6s5)
Replaced the controller and readjusted the ignitors and everything seems fine. It ran the blower for a bit and then ignited without any issue. Looks like the Aquahot is working perfectly. Now it just change the fluid it in and it should be good as new.
Thanks for the followup.
