Title: 92 U240 Drag Link
Post by: Michael Riensche on June 27, 2024, 09:57:32 am
I'm trying to get an alignment on our U240. The Drag Link ends need to be replaced. Anyone know what part numbers they would be or where to get them?  Thank you for your help. Michael

Michael,

Sorry, can't help with that part number. But, I would be surprised if it not the same as could be found on OTR trucks.

Is there actual play or just denigrated boots? If just boots, many of us have just done more frequent greasings until there is play.

But, before doing an alignment on your U240, be sure that the RIDE HEIGHT is set.  If you need directions, let us know. If you have a stack of the 1/4" shims in  back as is visible in front, you really likely need an adjustment.

We need some more info as there was changes made with the 225/240 during the end of production. But here is some info to get started. These are the numbers that I have that were on our 240 when I changed them out.

If the shaft threads are 1.25-12 RH with a 7/8-14 stud you need a 310228
                                      1.25-12 LH with a 7/8-14 stud you need a 331029
The big change was in the dia. of the shaft size at some point but don't know when this was done.

If you just need new boots then you need L24VC0109

I called Foretravel and they don't have records before 94. They thought it would be a 310-222 and 310-223. I've got some arriving tomorrow so I guess I'll have to wait and see if they are correct. Sounds like there may be several drag links for this application.

To answer the question of condition of the ones currently installed, the shop said they couldn't do an alignment as the drag link was too loose.

Again, doing an alignment if ride height is way out-- about all they can do/check is toe-in.

Do you have a picture of the rear shim stacks or measurement on current ride height?

Use "Send Message" to me if you need info on this.

They thought it would be a 310-222 and 310-223.

Those should be the smaller rod with the 1.12-12tpi and the7/8"-14 stud.

Based on measurements of the rear, it appears the ride higher is fine currently.

Excellent.

What is your ride height and how many shims are on each side?

Thank you Pamela & Mike. The ones Foretravel thought they would be were an inch and an eight. Mine are are an inch an a quarter. I ordered the ones you mentioned this afternoon and hopefully they will work. They will be in next week. Hopefully it will be ready for an alignment with the new drag link parts.
