Title: Accessing water Level sensors in our '89 GV
Post by: nitehawk on July 25, 2024, 09:06:16 pm
The fresh water tank is up front, on the elevated platform for the driver and passenger seats. There is a lift up access "door just rearward of the water tank housing. The water tank is covered with plywood and shag blue carpeting (UGH) so how do I get to the sensors on the tank?
I can see the wires down in the distribution access door. But do I have to somehow remove the plywood box cover and the UGLY blue shag carpet?

If my memory serves me there are screws holding the vertical face of the cabinet to the sides. Carpet was made originally to come off in sections. I sold these new. Don't blame me on the details if different. Been a long time. I have seen the tank exposed with the sides still present long ago

Looked for screws. Finger feeling first. Then magnets (plural)
No luck either way. Could the screws be non-magnetic mat'l such as brass or stainless?

Peel back that vintage carpet. If it's removable there would be an edge? Could a prior owner have replace it covering over the screws? Even with my low mat carpet it takes some time to locate the screws. Outside was just the plain steel screws. Typically for mine was three screws per side

Remove the sliding table and the maybe 4 screws. They are the square drive style like 99% on the bus.
I had mine out to weld the tank.  Maybe I posted some pics.  Should be summer 18.

Sorry, ain't any sliding table. The tank is dead center, up front, under the dash and extends rearward under the raised driving platform.

All I have found so far is a link to a Facebook album but I'll keep poking around.

When we had our 240 that tank cover had screws around the perimeter. There were like 3 screws on each side and a couple on the front side. Yes they were hid in the carpet.

Seems like someone on here had to remove the tank to replace a bad spot in the floor. I'll see if the IT department can help out.

Yes there are screws under the carpet and they are square drive #2. I found them by having the driver bit in my drill and tapping along the edges. Otherwise just take the carpet off. I don't think it came with shag carpet when new. The original carpet was a real high grade medium length carpet.

These are pics from our 92 grand villa I took this spring. Yours is probably similar. Screws at bottom of the cover go into the floor to hold the who thing down. I had to remove the small piece of plywood between the tank and the access door as well. If carpet is original, you should be able to fold carpet back to access screws and the carpet will be in sections so no cutting is required. Not really a hard job.  I have some other pictures but these seemed like the best ones. Let me know if you need more.
