Title: Furnace
Post by: dans96u295ft on September 23, 2024, 10:28:52 am
My bedroom furnace squeals upon start up then quiets down.  It's the original furnace. Is it very difficult to pull it out and rebuild or replace? Can I still buy a new unit? 1996 U295.
Thanks

How do you get to the motor shaft bearings?

Access the furace from the outside.  Locate the two ends of the motor shaft.

Use a light viscosity non detergent oil (sewing machine oil is a good choice).

I put a drop at a time on the end of a long screwdriver and "drop it" on the shaft as close to the motor as possible.

Put 4-5 drops on each end of the motor. It will wick in to the bearing/bushing area.

The perfect tool for this task is the Zoom Spout Oiler.  Find them at Lowes's, HD, or most hardware stores.

You can research on line, get a new motor, the oiling deal works but is a temperary fix.
