Title: Slide bladder tear at middle track
Post by: Joe Phebus on September 23, 2024, 03:18:13 pm
Hi All,

I have an appointment with Keith in a couple month to replace the bladder which developed a small leak.  Now I have a second one that is a bit larger over the track at the middle of the slide.  I'm trying to decide whether to repair it with the Loctite 406 , Aquaseal or maybe a rubber patch.  The tear is at the top of the bladder just where it meets the track.

I seem to recall a discussion a while back of something to protect the bladder at the track when inflated, but I cant find that post.  Maybe from Scott (dsd)?  At any rate, if there is a part that should be there, I want to order it so Keith can install it at the same time he does the new bladder.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

I think in this case it wasn't caused by just sitting there under pressure.  More likely we didn't get sufficient deflation when moving the slide in (its a vey small gap a the bottom) and may have punctured or tore it moving it in.    We probably need some adjustment to raise it on the bottom.  I believe that's done with shims?

There should be an angled piece/guide in that gap.  I can't tell if I can see it in your photo or if that's the bladder itself.  See  Emergency '03 slide bladder repair (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=10319.msg49042#msg49042)

The bedroom one mentioned in that old thread had never been installed, and found just sitting under the slide  HWH Slide Seal Replacement (https://www.irvblog.com/foretravel%20projects/Slide-Bladder-Replacement/)

See also this detail from Dan regarding the proper placement of that guide  "Normal service" and Slide Bladder replacement, Old Town MotorCoach Nac (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=30356.msg262432#msg262432)

Thanks, Michelle!

That's the bladder itself.  It just sits there inflated and puffed out.

If anyone has a part number or diagram with the part number, would be much appreciated.

It's going to be a FOT part - I'd call them to make sure you get the right part.  My records from 2010 show that the piece for a 2003's bedroom slide is

AP24345  Cover, 1 1/4" leg S/O Slot-w/foam

Not sure if the piece for the big slide is the same or not (the "leg" may be different, but 14 years ago the one above was $19.75. via MOT during our slide bladder replacement.

Thank you so much, you're a gem  FOT has them in stock.  There are several types, but he's sure he'll have them when we get there in November for the bladder replacement.  Slot Cover is what Brad said to ask for.
