Title: Unknown Wire / Sat BL 38492
Post by: steve on September 23, 2024, 07:16:34 pm
I've been redoing a lot of the A/V wiring in the front cabinets, mostly removal as I'm updating to HDMI and removing a bunch of coax/RCA/component video/etc.  Anyway in doing this I came across a (3) wire bundle (1) with FT marking of Sat BL 38492 and (2) unmarked.  They were located in the cabinet above the drivers seat.

It is not currently connected to anything and was simply abandoned in place.  It has that (1) labeled wire, plus (2) other unlabeled wires (suspect ground and power) that are joined into a pigtail of wires, (2) black, (2) red, (1) blue (see pic)

Anyone have any idea what this would have been used for?  I'm going to remove it and tag the unlabeled ones, but was curious what its purpose was.

Do you have the wire list for your coach? I would think that it would have been for a sat dish. Probably was for the controller for the dish.

Clip a tone generator on the end and then follow the tone until you find the other end. Inexpensive at Amazon or cheaper at HF. Amazon.com : tone generator and probe kit (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tone+generator+and+probe+kit&crid=3ODLGA9DTDHLD&sprefix=tone+generator%2Caps%2C630&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_14)

That's how I located the bundle of wires from the engine compartment to the wall by the steering wheel.

I do but did not see that wire listed,  I'll take another look.  The wire seemed to be heading towards the back of the coach.

Clip a tone generator on the end and then follow the tone until you find the other end.
Good idea,  I have one by Sperry that I think  will do that (primarily used to chase down network drops).

Are these #12 or #14 copper?  Could they maybe be wiring for an in motion satellite dish?

I attempted to trace this but once under the dash it went into one of those arterial mega bundle clumps and all hope seemed to be lost.

While checking on another issue, I stumbled across the wire on the B-2179 The selected media item is not currently available. schematic.  Sat BL is shown as "To Sat Control Optional" and is connected to one side of the PRK BRK WS (parking brake switch).

Mystery solved, just wanted to update with what I found.
