I acquired a 2008 Nimbus 342 this past March. I live on Long Island, Bohemia NY. I consider that the coach Will need to be winterized from November through April 15. We do use it during the winter so I have some questions for winterizing the water system and maintenance of the slide room air seals. This is my first RV with the Hydronic heating systems so I will start there.
I dislike the idea of filling the potable water system with the RV antifreeze. Hard to get out the smell. For my last three RV's, my method was to open drains and remove the tank drain plug on the water heater. Get rid of as much water as possible. Then use compressed air to blow out all the water lines, sink faucets etc. I would also pull the hoses off the solenoid for the ice maker. I would let the air blow through until no more spray, drizzle, whatever. I would then use the blower of a wet van to push the water out of the P-traps sink and showers and add some antifreeze to them just is case. The main advantage of this approach is that when we wanted to use the RV all we needed to do was add water.
So now with the Oasis, if I drain and purge the domestic water system, can the boiler still be used for heat and preheating the engine? Can the engine heat loop still be used to heat the coach while traveling? The real concern is if I could still use the diesel flame and electric heat? Or is it necessary for that domestic coil to be liquid filled? Does the "Summer" pump need to be disabled? Or should I just plan to leave the heat on and accept that cost? I did that when it came home in March as it was only for a few weeks. I do have it connected to power.
Now for the slide out rooms. As it is connected power the air compressor can run to keep the room seals inflated. I am thinking of adding a 110 volt compressor the save that DC one. My concern is that there is still space for water and snow to get into the space just outside of the seal and then freeze there. Should I somehow close or tape off around the slide out boxes?
During this freeze protection period we will likely use the coach for two to four outings. My goal is to make the winterizing process do what is needed and to able to restore the water system quickly. Sometimes the decision to go on a trip will be made while driving home from work, especially if we look to use it football game tailgating. Late February may be the Daytona 500.
Thanks in advance for suggestions and help.
