Title: New Drive Tires for 36' 97 U295
Post by: Brucep86 on October 18, 2024, 11:19:11 am
We recently replaced the steer tires on our 36' 97 U295 with 295/75 22.5 Toyo M177's.  Now looking to replace the drive tires and the shop recommended the Toyo M677's.  On a quick search, I've not been able to find other posts with motorhomes using this particular tire and was wondering if anybody had any experience with them, and if so, which load range (G or H)?

Thanks

Here is a link to the specs and picture of this tire.

This is a definite purpose drive tire for a truck or Semi Tractor. This style tread even with the closed sides is not conducive to a smooth quiet ride over time. It is also speed range "L" limiting it to 75 mph. While you may not drive that speed you want some reserve. Load range "L" goes to 81 mph. This tire is ideal for urban/regional use. Is there a reason you want or think you need a drive tire? I had Conti HDRs on my last coach as I did winter traveling and also often camped on grassy, sometimes muddy fields. Somehow, they were quieter the XRVs they replaced. I would look for other choices. There are choices beyond Michelin and Toyo. If you like I could assist with other options. Oh, and I would go the load range "H".

This year I replaced all six tires on my 97 U320 '40 with the Toyo 177.  I am VERY pleased with the ride and they are much quieter than the previous Uniroyals.

I put the Toyo M177 all the way around on our 97 36 foot u270 load range H. Very happy with them.

98 36' U270 M177 all around, would do it again. Wearing much better than the Goodyear 670s they replaced. Been on a couple years and 36,000 miles, look brand new.

the shop recommended the Toyo M677's.

Always need to be careful of shop recommendations.  I wouldn't be surprised if they just have a lot in inventory or they make more money on that one.  Good to see you are asking questions and investigating.  I have M177s too and like them.

Our 2000 has Toyo M177 LRH all around.  We always used Michelin XZA LRH on the '03.  We both prefer the M177.

177's all around on ours. This coach had rode on Michelins since new until this set of Toyo's...won't ever go back!

Note the toy on the dash....a part of Brad Metzger will always ride with me...........

I would look for other choices.

I called them "Drive Tires" due to the position they are in.  I already have Toyo's on the front, so that's what Im going with for the rears.  I was asking about the "667's" since that's what the tire shop recommended, and said they have them in stock.  I had to wait several days for the 177's to come in, and don't have a problem waiting.  I will most probably go with 177's or 170's.

Thanks

I went with the M170's load range H all the way around, they may give up a little on the ride but with the 8'outboard airbags we ride pretty good anyway. I like the idea of the tougher sidewalls on the regional all position tire. We stay in a lot of smaller campgrounds and the M170's have better "curb" appeal. 😎

One thing you might want to watch for with M177 LR H tires, is that there are two versions of this tire.  The Japanese made version has a minimum inflation of 95 PSI.  The non Japanese version is rated for a lower minimum inflation.  95 psi is considerably over the inflation recommended for rear tires on my coach, ride suffers a bit.

Chuck,

Where did you find that information?  I don't see it on Toyo's website.

The 667 is a drive axle specific tire. It is not a steer or all position tire. I would not suggest it for an RV application due to possible noise and harshness. The large un-sipped tread blocks are probably not ideal for wet pavement traction.
