Our current server provider is having to move to a new data center (having to physically move the servers) from their current location in NY to a new location NJ. The primary reason given is cost, "upon renewal of our contract, we have been unable to negotiate affordable rates for this facility". It is important to understand that physically moving servers to the new location, will cause unavoidable downtime.
In all there are 75 servers that need to be moved, the one we are on is scheduled for 11/15 between 8PM and 2AM EST. I guess the good part of that is we are in the last batch, so hopefully all the kinks will have been fixed in the 2 moves ahead of us.
So *sometime* Friday 11/15 the site will be down while the server travels to its new location and be back up early Saturday. If I get any further updates I'll post them here. I plan on doing full site backups on the 15th as well.
Well, at least it's better than the time Frank at GC Solutions moved servers without telling us. That was a long time ago and was quite the misdirected handbasket.
