Title: Window felt replacement
Post by: WS6_Keith on November 13, 2024, 11:26:29 am
The felt on a few of my sliding windows needs to be replaced.  The search didn't turn up anything.  Where can I get the material and what's involved with this job?  Anyone done it before?  I have to imagine so.

We did this years ago on an old motorhome we fixed up (think 70's Condor on an M11 hot rod truck chassis!)

I believe it came in a roll and was cut to length. Scraped out the old and stuffed in the new.

I'd search Google to start...maybe one of the vintage RV suppliers?

Curious if anyone has done this recently too...

We got some of that stripping for our '92 (don't laugh) from JC Whitney of all places years ago. The material for our '98 came off eBay. I haven't checked Amazon  or Mc Master Carr but both may have it. Just make sure you check the size twice as there are several sizes that are close in size. Look for RV window channel weather stripping.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, it's not the window channel, but the felt between the windows that looks to be wiper or seal between the pieces of glass.

They're definitely still around - they carry the bay gasket material (bulb seal) from CR Laurence.  Here are the search results on their site for window pile:

I just wish replacing window felt had made it to the top of my todo list.    But. I'm greatfull that the thread is there for when it does.
I did find that cleaning and lubing the window channel made a big difference.

As Bob & Sue said, keeping the sliding glass channels clean pays. A vacuum attachment and a toothbrush works well.

I want to replace every single double pane slider window in my coach with a modern ceramic coated, bottom tilt out window,  but Foretravel is not interested in enteraining the upgrade whatsoever.  HELP!!!!  We are so trapped in the 90's.

Well, the list is easy stuff, but there are a few.  Window pile, slide topper flex keys (both), bed struts, gen rad compartment struts, trailer door latch bolts, dash engine heat, dash AH heat, reseal a few windows (Quartzsite project), etc.  Slowly getting through it.
