Title: location of door bell?
Post by: Larry Rubin on December 04, 2024, 10:35:41 am
Any ideas on location of the door bell chimer?  And what it looks like?

I'm trying to find out why my door bell chimes when the engine is started or turned off.  Seems pretty weird.

Picture is under and behind large drawer under cook top.  It sounds like it is coming from this area.

My coach is 2004 38ft with fridge just to right of picture.  The small black square in front on right is fuse to supply for Seelevel tank monitor.

My '99 had it in the front of the overhead cupboard above the passenger seat.

Our '03 had it in the most forward passenger side cabinet, as does our 2000.  In the '03, I believe it was powered by D-cell batteries.  Would expect the same for your 2004.

Wonder if stray chassis current is somehow coupling onto the wire from the button (door handle) to the sounding unit.  That could happen if there was a poor ground connection somewhere.

It just really sounds like it is coming from the kitchen area.  I've never changed any D cells that are part of the coach so think it must be wired in.  Yes, bad ground somewhere.  I'll have to take the button part of the grab handle apart and look.

The doorbell sounder is a pretty obvious box and should be located close to the entry door in an overhead cabinet.

Do you have a residential refrigerator?  Could it be a momentary power glitch causing it to sound a power-on chime?  Or a poor door contact where the vibration of starting/stopping the engine causes a door-open chime?

I'll look again at the door area for the box but haven't seen anything there.  My coach has a wooden cup holder / power outlet box next to the the passenger seat.  Maybe behind there.

All good ideas but the chime sounds every time the key is turned to off.

Upper/overhead cabinets, not down low.  Passenger side, likely the one over the passenger seat (not over the door).  Look on the forward vertical wall inside the cabinet.

Can you stand inside and have someone outside ring the doorbell?

On ours, its's somewhere near the sink.  Have not looked for it, but when MOT rebuilt the button on the handle, that's where the chime comes from.  2003 4220

The bell is under the kitchen sink behind a panel that protects the subwoofer box.  I won't be able to get to work on it for a few days.
