Title: Recliner removal
Post by: MarkC on December 17, 2024, 09:19:12 pm
Getting ready to do a furniture and cabinet upgrade and was wondering if the leather recliner than Foretravel put in comes apart to get out the door? I know I can take apart the jackknife sofa and get it out in pieces.

I'd hate to go at the recliner with the sawzall if I don't have to ???

Depending on which recliner will determine if it has the back release catches or you have to unbolt the back.

I haven't looked for a brand tag yet. It is the stock recliner Foretravel installed in 2001.  I'll take a closer look to see if I can find a brand tag, or if it has any kind of releases. I didn't find any releases or bolts, but I'll look again.

Here's a pic, you can see part of the recliner. Not sure if that will help to identify it.

Show us a photo. Think you will find the back comes up and out from bottom with removal of bolts at bottom of each side of the back.

I believe we have the same recliner. We had ours redone. They unbolted it, fully reclined it and snaked it out the door, intact.....if that is the same chair.....

That's the same recliner that i have and i think it's the most comfortable seat in the house. Seems to be the right size too... a little smaller than the typical residential home recliner.  Perfect for me.  I don't love the Villa fake leather so much.

Jeff was yours bolted to the floor?  Mine just sits there.  It's funny if someone is reclined and i have to brake hard it just rolls over and spills them on the floor... lol

Definitely not a Stressless (https://d3kpm8kazby4td.cloudfront.net/11650150943702_2400x2400_front.jpg)

New they're in the $2000-3500 range and wonderfully comfortable.

Is there a hook on the floor behind it that you can attach a nylon tether to keep it in place to? I added a tether when I upgraded my recliner... otherwise it moves all over.

We put a small non skid rug under our recliner to keep it from moving during travel. I don't believe any of them are designed to be occupied while in transit.

Well that is true but I don't consider myself a safety-crat.  I rode on my mom's motorcycle when I was a kid (holding onto the gascap) and she smoked in the car (not to mention throughout her pregnancy) and threw her arm out in front of me if she had to stop hard.  Sometimes enjoyment of life is in the risk.  I do like riding in that recliner when I have a co-driver.
Oh btw Keith thanks for the thermostat.  I still haven't installed it yet.. but I will get to it.

Yes, to keep it from spinning when underway.

Thanks all, with Mike's help, I located the bolts to remove to get the chair out in two pieces.
Like George's it just sits there without bolts or tethers. It has never budged while driving, but as it's just the two of us, and she doesn't drive the coach, it's never occupied.

Our recliner fits in a grooved rubber tether keeping it solid on the floor. We stuff pillows on the wall side to stop the recliners turning about.

We had one like yours and felt it took up too much room in our non slide coach. Found a used stressless at MOT for $375. We dearly love it and appreciate the psychological space over the larger recliner.

That was a great find! Our U295 came with the Villa furniture "upgrade".  The big recliner looks OK, but isn't comfortable.  The Flexsteel (I think) recliner in our U240 was quite a bit smaller but very comfortable even for my 6'4" frame.
